A kea in flight over the Southern Alps.

Kea

Kea is a free, open-source native multi-account client for X on macOS.

Every account keeps its own session and stays loaded, so switching between them is instant: nothing reloads, you keep your place on the page, and nothing is shared between accounts.

Kea is preparing for an early public alpha and needs macOS 15+. It is named after a bird — and the bird needs the help more than the app does.

Why Kea?

Kea takes its name from New Zealand’s remarkable alpine parrot — known for its curiosity, intelligence and independent character. It is a good name for a Mac app: sharp, playful, and happiest when it is working something out.

The kea is the only parrot in the world that lives in an alpine environment, in the mountains of the South Island and nowhere else. Fewer than 7,000 are thought to remain in the wild, and the species is classified as Nationally Endangered.

Who protects them

Several organisations work on kea. The Kea Conservation Trust researches the species, supports predator control and works with the communities that share the mountains with kea. New Zealand’s Department of Conservation monitors populations and manages predators on public conservation land.

Each month, 30% of the voluntary support Kea receives is donated to Protect the Kea, a project managed by NZ Nature Fund. You can also give to either of them directly.
